A man's neck was lacerated by a meat cleaver during one of two armed robberies on Brisbane's northside last week that police believe are connected. The first robbery occurred at 5.20pm last Tuesday night in Stafford.A man walked into the Stafford Heights Convenience Store on Farrant Street, approached the counter, held a meat cleaver above his head and demanded money, police said.A male employee, aged in his forties, picked up items from the counter and threw them at the offender. He left the shop empty-handed and was last seen running towards Gatwick Street.Police also believe the man had been seen in the carpark at the rear of the shop prior to the robbery.A second robbery, that police believe was conducted by the same man, occurred an hour later in Chermside.CCTV footage captured a man hanging around the front of Young's Convenience Store, on the corner of Corrie Street and Hamilton Road, before entering carrying what looked like a meat cleaver. He went behind the counter and threatened the male owner while demanding money. As the owner opened the register, the offender held the cleaver to his neck, causing a laceration. The owner instinctively grabbed the cleaver and was cut on the webbing between the fingers on one of his hands. The offender took money from the register, escaped through the front door and fled down Corrie Street, away from Hamilton Road, police said. The owner was treated by ambulance officers.Police would like to speak with a woman who got takeaway from the Indian restaurant in Farrant Street in Stafford Heights at 5.20pm on Tuesday, April 29, just before the first robbery occurred. They would also like to speak with a man who was in Young's Convenience Store in Chermside, just before the second robbery occured, at 6.20pm.The offender was described as Caucasian and 175cm tall with a proportionate build and aged in his late teens to early twenties, with light brown curly hair.He was wearing a grey hooded jumper, black shorts with a red and white stripe and logo on the back, white rimmed sunglasses and black shoes.Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
