ARARAT - Members of the Ararat business community were invited to present their expertise to Ararat College year 11 students as part of a careers day.

The aim of the day was to give students a realistic insight into a variety of professions and to help them make an informed decision about their future.

Each student had chosen four sessions to attend, ranging from beauty therapy with Kaye Poyner to diesel mechanics with Steve Stacpoole.

Students greatly enjoyed the experience and the feedback received from the presenters was also encouraging.

"I enjoyed talking to the Mayor Cr Fay Hull as she was very open to sharing her experiences leading up to her current position. I also enjoyed learning about the area of mining with Sarah Moran. Overall it was good to see where different pathways lead you,'' said year 11 student Lindsay Woods.

Another student, Alisha Karnilowicz noted the 'importance of continual learning in all professions represented', while Rebecca Hodgetts was pleased that 'no matter what area you leaned towards, we were informed in all of these'.

This event was organised by Ararat College career co-ordinator Andrew Sherwell and Francesca Suffield from Lenzone.

If you would like to participate in next year's career afternoon, contact Andrew Sherwell at Ararat College on (03) 53524177.

Ararat College wishes to gratefully acknowledge the following presenters who shared their expertise on the day: Mayor Cr Fay Hull - Ararat Rural City Council, Sally Hinchliffe - Sally Hinchliffe and Associates, Paul Kelly - Victoria Police, Russell Pearce - Hotondo Homes, Donna Hunter - Gorrinn House Retirement Village, Caroline Hamilton - EGHS Physiotherapy, Jo Simmonds - EGHS Professional Development Officer, Daryle Baldock - McGregor House, Steve Stacpoole and Nathan Curtis - SAS Truck Services, Kaye Poyner - Kaye Poyner Beauty Therapy, Sarah Moran, Scott Turner - Best Employment, Jamie Bennett - Workco.
