Busy planting trees

ARARAT - Thanks to a Sustainable Communities grant from Pacific Hydro members of Ararat Landcare Group have been busy planting native trees and shrubs along waterways around Ararat.

Three sites have been targeted so far including the area along Cemetery Creek east of Acacia Avenue, near the Carey Street Kindergarten and opposite Landmark at the east end of the High Street Western Highway diversion.

New members and volunteers for weeding and planting are always welcome. Margaret Shea is the volunteer contact on phone 5352 1046.

Members of the Landcare Group have also been busy controlling weeds to protect native vegetation at a number of locations around Ararat including the Community College block west of the High School, along Cemetery Creek and many roadsides including Burke, Bryant and Chalambar Roads in the south end of town.

Group members are currently working around the Flint Hill area.

This Sunday is National Tree Day, but members of the Ararat Landcare Group are busy planting trees all year around.
